| Over fifty years ago a beautiful white teddy bear was given to a little girl on the day that she was born. The teddy bear was later called Sooty, although why he got this name she cannot remember. The teddy bear was just over a foot tall and when he was new he wore a beautiful blue ribbon, which later became lost, due to too much play. The teddy bear was the little girl's soulmate, he accompanied her everywhere she went, including birthday parties, annual holidays and trips to the seaside where often he was buried in sand and helped her enjoy candyfloss and toffee apples and of course he was always with her on Christmas mornings. Sooty accompanied her on her first day at school and later when she worked in the music business he even accompanied her there. Now although extremely threadbare, Sooty still remains with her to this day, however, due to his very fragile nature these days he don't travel very far anymore. Sooty is a Pedigree Teddy Bear.
Pedigree Toys were created by Lines Brothers in 1937. Pedigree were general toy makers but the label was originally intended to specialise in teddy bears. Pedigree teddy bears had fairly flat noses with short muzzles and very distinctive mouth stitching which went up at either side to give the effect that the teddy bear was smiling. In 1946 Pedigree opened a factory in Belfast, the company also opened factories in other countries including New Zealand and Australia.
